Real Digital Media adds on-demand feature

Published by wire under Equipment, News, Software, Solution Provider

Real Digital Media (RDM), a leading provider of next generation digital signage products for establishing point-of-purchase marketing, promotions and corporate communication networks, today announced a new on-demand feature for digital signage network operators. This is the latest feature released for Real Digital Media’s NEOCAST® digital signage platform.

Using a simple, remote control device with a tiny receiver connected via USB, NEOCAST® clients are now able to instantly suspend a running playlist, jump to a menu screen, scroll up and down to select a desired menu item and have that selected item start playing instantaneously. While the selected media is playing, the remote operates like a DVR controller, allowing the user to pause, forward and rewind to sections or return to the main menu to choose additional content or return to regular programming. The content for the on-demand feature can be pre-populated across a network, group of players or individual players using the centralized, NEOCAST® Media Server software.

“This interactive application has obvious benefits for training, corporate communications, on-floor sales presentations and internal messaging,” said Michael Baron, president of Real Digital Media. “CEOs can have key messages presented to assembled staff at designated times, special promotions and merchandising strategies can be introduced on the retail floor to educate and train sales representatives, and service providers can receive continuing education training at their offices. The options for the feature are limitless, and add another layer of flexibility and usability to our NEOCAST® digital signage platform.”

Helius Technology Powers In-Mall Digital Signage Network

Food court at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City in Arlington, Virginia.
Helius, a Hughes company, has teamed with PlasMedia Productions on one of the nation’s largest in-mall digital signage networks, servicing over 3,600 advertisers in 100 locations. PlasMedia selected the Helius digital signage solution because it allowed them to quickly expand their business and meet all of their technology requirements.

PlasMedia Productions operates an ad-funded digital signage network, serving shopping malls with localized ads targeting millions of shoppers. PlasMedia provides local advertisers (in-mall and off-site) an opportunity to promote their products and services through video ads and multimedia commercials. Initially, PlasMedia Productions opted to use a competitor’s digital signage solution, which required manual updates to the media players every time an ad was modified or created. By late 2006, with business growing and mall locations starting to branch out across the US, it was clear that the manual update and management solution currently in place was not going to be viable going forward. In its search to replace the existing solution, PlasMedia piloted the Helius Media Signage product and found it allowed for central control and deployment of content to any number of Helius media players.

Digital Displays Poised For Growth

Published by wire under Equipment, News

Digital Signage in the Warner Village Cinemas in Taipei
Signs point to robust growth for digital signage. Flat-panel digital displays for advertising, branding and information are becoming commonplace in retail stores, hotels, restaurants, airports and elsewhere. Analysts see spending on digital signage systems in the U.S. jumping to $5 billion in 2011 from $1 billion last year. Retailers like the systems because they can pitch products to customers while they're in a store and in a buying mood. Nowhere To Hide Systems in malls, airports and other public places give advertisers the ability to reach those elusive consumers who are spending less time with traditional media such as television and newspapers. "It's a market that's going to grow tremendously over the next couple of years," said Pierre Richer, president of NEC Display Solutions, a unit of NEC.  "There are tons of opportunities popping up out there. It's just a really bright future right now for this market." The market's potential has drawn a crowd of competitors, and many likely will be weeded out soon, Richer says. NEC is a top general contractor for digital signage systems. Flat-panel display makers have flocked to the digital signage market because they're seeing growth rates slow in markets like televisions, PC monitors and notebook displays, says Chris Connery, an analyst with DisplaySearch. The $100 billion flat-panel display industry sees digital signage as "the next big market," Connery said. But the market has challenges for newcomers. Read more...
